Described throughout the 1800s as being dressed in fur and riding upon a sleigh drawn by reindeer, he had no absolute standardise identity untill around 1930 when illustrator Haddon Sundblom commissioned by The Coca-Cola™ Company up untill 1964, dressed him in the corporate red and white livery for their Christmas advertising campaigns which continue to this day.
